The houses are timber frame, using straw bales as insulation and are heated naturally by the sun throughout most of the year, with slate roofs, timber cladding, lime render, and clay plaster. The houses have been self built (with training) by local people who could not afford a house on the open market in Broadhempston.  The tour will include a slide show showing the ups and downs of the project.
